Increased Money Donated, Increased Social Awareness

This is for fleshing out the "increased money donated, increased social awareness" quadrant:

A few decades later when the economy of the United States flourishes again, more people will hold higher paying, more secure jobs with better benefits. When they financially stable enough to support themselves and their families, they are more willing to donate a portion of their money and time to help others who are less fortunate. At the same time, affluent individuals with higher income can afford luxuries such as televisions and computers with Internet. Having access to these technologies means that these people have the potential to be exposed to more advertisements. Global charities will utilize the media to promote their cause and recruit volunteers. Meanwhile, businesses will also experience the economic boom. As a result, they will have more capital to spend on innovative promotions. For example, they can sponsor a charity event or donate a hefty sum to an organization. They can expand and advertise their active participation to attract the attention of potential consumers who are conscientious of helping the needy.

Accountability

Christina Chung - Archivist of "drivers" of change; did research on different options for the axes; coordinated meetings and led discussions; searched for and emailed various teachers and college professors, requesting them to be our oracle

Angela Hwang - Bibliographer who collects sources and links them to findings; researched recent news articles to find information that is relevant to our topic

June Liu - Archivist of predetermined "givens"; researched background information of global charities and the different possible scenarios; helped create the poster board

Erika Tsang - Story weaver; organized the information into four distinct scenarios; helped create the poster board

We all contributed to the overall research of Global Charities. During our frequent meetings, also do a lot of discussion, analyzing and synthesizing the information we have discovered.

Archived List of Drivers

1. Economy - People living in a booming economy will be more willing to donate their time and money to help others who are less fortunate. It can also mean a surplus of goods that can be sent to impoverished communities. On the other hand, in a recession or a depression, individuals are more likely to be struggling to make ends meet themselves. They will tend to focus their time on their work or looking for better-paying job, and spend their money on rent and other basic necessities.

2. Technology - An increase in technology correlates with increased awareness. News can be quickly spread to many people around the world through media such as the Internet, TV broadcast, periodicals, and radio. Also, more advancements in technology means more competition, rendering the cost of utilizing these resources to become lower.

3. Support from Eminent Individuals - Having well-known individuals sponsor a cause appeals to ethos. They can be experts in their field like scientists ad researchers, elected officials from the government, media correspondents, or even celebrities.

4. Media Coverage - What reporters and editors choose to broadcast plays a significant role in affecting public opinion. They serve as a guide of what issues are important and deserve attention.

5. Natural Disasters (wildcard) - When tragedy strikes, people become more aware of related issues and potential problems. Natural disasters like tsunamis and earthquakes can also destroy a community by annihilating all the businesses and agriculture in the area. If severe enough, this kind of destruction can alter the nation's output and GDP, which will negatively affect the economy.

6. Terrorist Attacks/War (wildcard) - Resources will be funneled away from other areas to concentrate in national defense. Allocating large sums of money to military endeavors will mean tightening funds to other needs.
