Managua, Nicaragua
Managua, Nicaragua, the nation's capital, is the second most populous city in Central America. Meanwhile, Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Americas by most economic standards. Since 48% of the population live below the poverty threshold, these citizens are less likely to donate money and time to support others. Indeed, 79.9% of the inhabitants live on less than $2 a day. Based on these statistics, the majority cannot afford such luxuries as televisions and computers, making them less accessible to advertisements. At the same time, the country's capital is flourishing economically so most of its people are relatively wealthy. The types of communication media that they come in contact with include: television, radio, cinema, newspapers, magazines, and Internet-based websites. Incidentally, freedom of speech is a right guaranteed by the Constitution of Nicaragua. As such, there is no official state censorship of the media. Despite the varying socioeconomic sections of the overall population, people in Nicaragua still participate in global charities. While most of them are domestic to support their own people, there are several large organizations such s "Si A La Vida" that provide overseas aid. Nicaragua's participation may be moderate, but that is justified because the country has many of its own struggles to overcome first.
